Hog Doggin’ is our specialty and our passion.
We have two types of dogs. We have strike/bay dogs and we have lead-in catch dogs. Each has it’s own unique purpose. The breed of dog may vary, however we have had great success using Kerr or Kerr/hound cross in the strike and bay dog cross. Their specific mission is to go out into the area we are hunting and use their nose and instinct to trail, locate, and find the hog. Once the hog has been located and bayed (a hog that is stopped in it’s tracks with the Bay dogs barking at it only.
Once the hog is bayed we move toward the Bay with the lead-in catch dogs.
The catch dogs are typically bull dog breed and we have had great success with American Bulldogs, Pit Bulls, and Dogo’s. At the present time we are breeding our own line of Bullgo’s. These are a mixture of American Bulldogs and Dogo’s. Our males range from 100lb to 140lbs. Once we have accessed the situation, we will release the catch dogs.
The bull dogs immediately move to subdue the hog.
At this time we make a decision as to whether we want to hobble the hog, which is taking the hog live, or harvest the hog. Should the hunter choose to harvest their hog, they may do so by knife or spear. Hog doggin’ can be done day or night.
